Google Using Hangouts for Classroom Field Trips

Earlier today Google tweeted about “Connected Classrooms” where schools and teachers can use Google Hangouts to bring the world into their classrooms through Google +. This is really a cool option I was not aware of before and I wanted to share it.

Educators can fill out a form and request to join the community. From what I gather this is not set up for homeschoolers yet, but perhaps Google will add this option later. There is a welcome guide and FAQ available for teachers, and educational institutions, to learn more about the program.

If you are aware of, or work with, an organization that is often used for field trips and they are capable of handing virtual field trips you should send them to Connect Classrooms: Organization so they can sign up.

Some of the current organizations include the Chicago Botanic Gardens, the Seattle Aquarium, the American Museum of Natural History and the Minnesota Zoo.
